Officers and board members presented plenty of reports and statistics at the West Roxbury Main Streets annual meeting on Monday night in the Blanchards meeting room. But the stat that garnered the loudest applause was the number of empty storefronts: Five.
While that number may seem high, board president Mike Loconto was quick to add, “Five empty storefronts out of 205 businesses. That’s the lowest of any of the 19 Main Streets districts – and the highest number of open businesses in any of them.”
Executive Director Kara O’Connor added that 11 new businesses opened in 2010 and seven new businesses opened in 2011, with three more anticipated by January.
“We’re happy to announce that all of (the new businesses) are still here,” O’Connor said, “which defies statistical odds in every possible way.”
