Comic Book Museum Show at Seek Books

This weekend see a Museum Quality piece of Americana at Seek Books.

Comics from the 50′s, 60′s 70′s, 80′s will be on display. T.V. Series, Movie Classics, Funny paper stars, Horror, Science Fiction, and of course Super Heroes. A MUST SEE for comic fans, but also a good take on American Nostalgia.

Sunday April 8th Noon-6 p.m., Monday April 9th, Noon-8 p.m., Tuesday April 10th Noon-8 p.m. Admission is FREE.

West Roxbury Rocks! Event This Weekend Will Rock

This coming Saturday night will be Ethos’ West Roxbury Rocks event at the Irish Social Club to support AgeWell West Roxbury. Ethos’ Executive Director Dale Mitchell answered questions from West Roxbury Patch.

Patch: On Saturday, March 24, at 7-11 p.m. is Ethos’ West Roxbury Rocks event – what is the goal of this event?

Mitchell: The goal of Ethos’ West Roxbury Rocks event is celebrate the fifth anniversary of, and raise funds for, our AgeWell West Roxbury initiative that supports the well-being of elderly and disabled. The program helps seniors “age in place” and offers vital support to their caregivers. It features educational workshops, exercise and balance programs and social events, offered free or at minimal cost to seniors.

Ethos’ AgeWell West Roxbury offers healthy aging classes on a variety of topics including regular physical activity; healthy eating; staying smoke-free and staying socially connected. The generous support from the community will go to continue and grow programming, and to be able to offer AgeWell classes to more seniors.

This May West Roxbury Main Streets is hosting the first annual Taste of West Roxbury at the Irish Social Club, on May 10^th, 2012 at 6pm.

Join us for a great community event while getting a ”taste” of the fantastic food from 24 of our local restaurants! The event will also feature DJ Dave Solimine, Silent auction, cash bar, and raffle prizes! All proceeds from this event will support West Roxbury Main Streets’ community revitalization efforts.

Masona Grill and West on Centre Join 60+ Businesses in 3rd Annual City-Wide Environmental Initiative

Boston, MA – Masona Grill and West on Centre have joined businesses and buildings from across the region in dedicating the next year to increase their sustainability and reduce energy use through participation in the Challenge for Sustainability. After a large kick-off event in December, businesses are starting to take their first steps into analyzing their
facilities and how they can move forward to save both money and resources. Participants in the 2012 Challenge include some of Boston’s largest buildings and progressive businesses, from convention centers to small pizza shops.

The Challenge for Sustainability helps businesses save money by increasing energy
efficiency, reducing resource consumption, decreasing solid waste, and reducing
overall greenhouse gas emissions. ABC provides participants with hands-on technical assistance, access to energy audits, guidance in developing and implementing a sustainability plan, and connection to a network of sustainability professionals and practitioners for
networking and best practices sharing.

Participation for businesses throughout Boston’s Main Streets districts has been made
possible through a partnership with the City of Boston and funding from The
Boston Foundation. ABC and the City of Boston are targeting small to medium size businesses in all 19 districts, and hope to serve 50 Main Streets businesses in 2012. Masona and West on Centre join 16 other Main Streets businesses that have already signed on to the program and represent the West Roxbury district. “We believe that participation in the Challenge for Sustainability will bring small businesses the knowledge and tools they need to receive significant savings while protecting their bottom line,” said Kara O’Connor, of West Roxbury Main Streets.

Wade Winters, representing Au Bon Pain in the Challenge states that, “A Better City has been vital in providing the contacts, resources, and data necessary to avoid the red tape and
efficiently pursue energy saving initiatives for Au Bon Pain. The ABC team members provide experiences and information that help others avoid mistakes and pitfalls”.

The Challenge for Sustainability was launched in 2009 by A Better City, a
non-profit business association focused on transportation, land development,
and environmental initiatives aimed at improving the economic competiveness of Greater
Boston.
